When HCR Law’s specialist insurance team launched in 2021, it promised a new generation of legal practice, providing the expertise, service and customer experience the insurance industry deserves.
It’s an approach that is proving very successful. The team is growing, delivering services to an increasing number of clients and recently secured positive recognition and endorsements in the Legal 500.
Since its launch, the team has trebled in size which has been led through client demand, and includes partner Leanne Conisbee, who joined in 2023.
The team has successfully attracted leading insurers, serving over 70 clients in areas such as policy reviews, disputes, claims resolution, inquests, regulatory investigations, prosecutions, crisis management and risk reviews. It also supports growing companies with M&A due diligence.
Jonathan Edwards, Head of Insurance and Risk commented: “This fantastic growth vindicates our decision to launch in a segment that was both saturated yet also crying out for something a little different. Under the guidance, and with the continuing support, of a very senior market leader, we built a model entirely around the customer, one that takes a very different approach to give insurers exactly what they need and want from legal advisors.”
The most significant recognition and the most important feedback comes directly from the customers we work with. In the 2025 Legal 500 ranking, which globally analyses the capabilities of law firms highlighting the firms and lawyers who are providing the most cutting edge and innovative advice, the team achieved important recognition, supported by glowing reviews.
This included: “HCR is an outstanding firm. The partners are exceptional in their leadership and experience offering insurers an outstanding service at competitive rates. The quality of their work is uniformly high and they always add real value to their cases. The associates are hardworking and combine strong forensic attention to detail with strong client care skills. As a firm, they offer everything that a Defendant insurer could possibly want.”
Another commented: “Amazing firm of lawyers with depth across the board. From HSE prosecutions, dispute resolution or standard litigation matters HCR Law are the firm to choose. Their attention to detail, our clients brand protection and the exceptional results they achieve is the reason to choose HCR Law. They have supported our FTSE 100 clients and corporate clients with challenging matters and act promptly to respond to authorities and lawyers to achieve exceptional results.”
The team support insurers, brokers, and policyholders across several key industry sectors, also benefitting from the considerable skills and experience that other HCR teams bring to those sectors.
Its client-centric model emphasises a partnership approach and uses data-driven methods to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve client outcomes.
Jonathan concluded: “It’s been a short but incredible journey to this point which has only been possible with the steadfast support of my colleagues and clients. At the end of the day the only opinion that matters are that from the customers that support us and the glowing endorsements the team received in the Legal 500 has made all the hard work so worthwhile.”
