Client Story

Senior exit facilitated thanks to Employment Partner’s expertise

The director of well-known clothing and equipment brand had been increasingly sidelined by a new reporting structure. He believed there was intent to move him out of the business and wanted to secure a settlement which would give him time to find a new role, compensate for his early loss of job and ensure that he received the contractual bonus he was due.

He contacted Catherine Mitchell, Employment and Immigration Partner, for legal expertise and sound advice. Catherine refined the grievance letter which he had drafted to make clear that he had strong grounds for a valuable constructive dismissal claim. Shortly after receiving the letter, wheels were put in motion to negotiate a settlement. While the company was resistant to agreeing the sums laid out, Catherine advised her client that he had a strong case, supporting him to stand firm until a sensible offer was made.

At the end of the case the settlement achieved was twice as much as the company originally offered. Eventually they also agreed to include several additional benefits and to cover the entirety of the legal fees incurred.

Following the case, Catherine’s client said: “I was thoroughly impressed with Catherine and her colleagues at HCR, and have already recommended them to several of my contacts who are experiencing similar contractual issues. Everyone was professional, responsive and supportive. They clearly ensured they understood my needs and appetite to pursue my case, beyond that at all times I was consistently offered good advice.”
