A client was referred to HCR Law’s Healthcare Regulatory team after receiving a letter from the coroner’s court confirming they had been granted “interested person” status in an inquest.

An “interested person” refers to someone whom the coroner deems to have a proper interest in the proceedings and are therefore given some rights to participate in the investigation and inquest. A request was made of them for a statement regarding the deceased; namely for information concerning the client’s knowledge and involvement with them alongside any relevant supporting documentation.

The Healthcare Regulatory team reviewed and collated the documents held by the client regarding the deceased and drafted a statement addressing the specific information requested along with other pertinent information concerning the deceased which ought to be made known to the coroner.

The team went on to represent the client at the inquest, including the instruction of a barrister on their behalf, and no adverse conclusion, finding or prevention of future death report was made or issued against the client.
