Questions my clients ask me
My advice would be to prepare lasting powers of attorney sooner rather than later. These are thought to be primarily for elderly clients, as the risk of losing capacity is higher, however, many other situations can arise that would warrant the use of lasting powers of attorney.
A will allows you to set out your wishes clearly. Without a will, the laws of intestacy will apply and your assets can pass to family members you may not wish to benefit.
The payment of IHT will depend on the value of your estate and the reliefs available to you.
