Laura Shelton

Partner, Healthcare Regulatory

Why choose me

If you work in health and social care, you need legal advice which is a help – not a hinderance – to your day job. I understand the practical reality of running a business like yours, and I ensure my support is available at a time that works for you.

Professional yet approachable, with a wealth of specialist experience in healthcare regulation, I work to get the best possible results for you in a challenging sector where your clients are key. Working with care homes, home care agencies, independent hospitals and GP practices, as well as supported living providers, dental practices and registered healthcare professionals, I provide user-friendly advice to help you find effective, commercial and pragmatic solutions to regulatory problems.

My legal specialisms cover the full health and social care regulatory spectrum to ensure you receive the right advice no matter what you’re faced with. This includes advising across all aspects of CQC registration and enforcement, preparing factual accuracy responses to draft inspection reports and helping you achieve positive changes to ratings and regulatory breaches.

I defend enforcement measures effectively, through drafting responses to warning notices and notices of proposal. I’ve conducted successful appeals to the Care Standards Tribunal (First Tier) and the Upper Tribunal and have represented providers at inquests, helping to minimise adverse outcomes such as findings of neglect and prevention of future death reports.

For those facing disputes, I assist providers with safeguarding, contractual and commissioning disputes with local authorities, and advise on and initiate judicial review proceedings.

Outside of work my passions include travelling with my family, and keeping fit with yoga, netball and swimming.
