Richard Adams

Partner, Disputed Wills, Trusts & Estates

Why choose me

The opportunity to help and support clients, often at a distressing time, is at the heart my role in the Disputed Wills, Trusts and Estates team. This distress often comes about not only through dealing with the death of a love one but also through the added conflict – often with family members – of a dispute post-death. I take time to get to know each client along with the unique features of each case, and understanding what they want to achieve.

I ensure that I’m accessible and available to my clients; understanding and appreciating not only the strict legal issues which arise, but also recognising added personal elements involved. I work to take away the added stress and worry of litigation. As an experienced specialist in the field, I’ve worked with individuals, professional executors and trustees, and high-profile public figures. I also have experience of representing charities in relation to legacy disputes.

My specialisms include will validity challenges – often with an agricultural element, and those which involve businesses and partnerships. I also specialise in Inheritance Act claims, trust and estate disputes, funeral and burial disputes and proprietary estoppel claims.

Outside of work, I spend time with my two teenage daughters who have inherited my love of live music. I also have a keen interest and support of local community local league football. I’m also a lifelong supporter of Swansea City.

Questions my clients ask me

Litigation can often be a lengthy process; no two cases will be the same. I will always provide my best estimates in terms of timescale, and keep those under review throughout.

This depends on a number of factors, and of course the specific fact of each individual case. I will always provide you with an initial estimate of costs, and updated cost details for each stage of your case.

Court proceedings are generally a last resort, but sometimes are unavoidable. I always consider with clients whether it might be possible and appropriate to resolve matters prior to that.
